Different Christian traditions understand infant baptism differently. At Freedom Church, we practice believer’s baptism, meaning baptism follows a person’s own decision to follow Jesus.

If you were baptized as a baby and have now personally chosen to follow Jesus, we encourage you to be baptized as your own expression of faith and obedience. You don’t need to understand everything about baptism, but we believe you should be able to personally choose it.

At Freedom Church, we baptize by full immersion. The New Testament word for baptism carries the idea of dipping or immersing, and Romans 6:4 gives us a beautiful picture of being buried with Christ and raised to new life.

Going beneath the water represents the old life being surrendered to Jesus; coming back up represents the new life we have in Him.

If a disability, medical condition, fear of water, or other circumstance makes full immersion difficult, talk with us. We want to help you take this step safely.

No. Jesus saves us—not water. Salvation is a gift of God's grace received through faith in Jesus, not something we earn by being baptized.

At the same time, we don't believe baptism is merely an empty symbol. Jesus modeled it, commanded His followers to do it, and the early church treated it as a significant part of following Him.

Christians have historically used words like sacrament and ordinance to describe baptism, with different traditions understanding those terms differently. At Freedom Church, we believe baptism is an outward expression of an inward decision with real spiritual significance. As we obey Jesus in baptism, we come expectant for the Holy Spirit to continue His transforming and refining work in our lives.

Baptism doesn't produce our salvation; it is a response to the salvation we've received in Jesus.

Absolutely not. Baptism isn't a reward for mature Christians. It's a step of obedience for people following Jesus.

You will still have questions, struggles, habits you're working through, and areas where God is changing you. If you've made a genuine decision to follow Jesus, you don't need to reach another spiritual level before being baptized.

Not necessarily. The Bible doesn't present baptism as something we repeat every time we struggle or return to God. Baptism isn't a spiritual reset button.

However, if you were baptized before you personally chose to follow Jesus—or because of pressure from family, friends, or a church environment—your situation may be different. We'd love for you to talk with one of our pastors or leaders so we can help you think through your decision without pressure.

We'll walk you through everything—you don't need to memorize anything or worry about doing it wrong.

You'll enter the water with a pastor or leader, who will ask if you've accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior. We'll then baptize you in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, lowering you into the water and immediately bringing you back up.

Bring clothes you're comfortable getting wet in and a change of clothes for afterward. Our team will help with the rest.

Most importantly, come expectant. Baptism isn't graduation or an announcement that you've figured everything out. It's a moment of obedience, surrender, celebration, and an opportunity to invite the Holy Spirit to continue His work in your life.
